Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Kanishk Patel ("calo.", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the calo. iOS app and this website (together, the "Service"). calo. is operated from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Questions: kanishk@remembr.xyz.

1. Information we collect

  • Account & identity. When you create an account we collect your email address and, if you use Sign in with Apple or Google, the name and email those services share. We assign you an account identifier.
  • Profile & health information you provide. During onboarding and use you may provide your age/date of birth, sex, height, current and goal weight, activity level, dietary preferences, and allergies. We use these to calculate your calorie and macronutrient targets.
  • Food & activity logs. Meals you log (food names, calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat, meal type, and timestamps) and weight entries.
  • Meal photos. When you use the camera/scan feature, the photo you capture or select is uploaded to our servers to estimate its contents. With your consent, we retain these photos to improve the accuracy of our food-recognition models. Photos are stored privately and accessed through short-lived signed links.
  • Apple Health (HealthKit). With your explicit permission, calo. writes the meals you log to Apple Health and may read related data you authorise. HealthKit data is used only to provide the Service and is never used for advertising or sold. It is handled in accordance with Apple's requirements.
  • Subscription information. Purchases are processed by Apple. We receive your subscription status and entitlements through our subscription provider (RevenueCat); we do not receive your full payment card details.
  • Technical information. Standard server logs (e.g., IP address, timestamps) needed to operate and secure the Service. calo. does not embed third-party advertising or analytics tracking SDKs.

2. How we use information

We use information to: provide and operate the Service (including calculating targets and tracking intake); estimate the contents of meal photos and match foods against the Canadian Nutrient File (Health Canada); improve the accuracy of our food-recognition models; manage your subscription; send you service and onboarding emails; maintain the security and integrity of the Service; and comply with law.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, for the purposes above:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage hosting.
  • Google (Gemini) and OpenRouter — server-side AI processing of meal photos and text to recognise foods.
  • RevenueCat — subscription management.
  • SendPulse — transactional and onboarding email.
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases, and HealthKit.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.

4. Data location & transfers

The Service is operated from Canada. Some providers above process and store data in the United States or other countries. Where information is transferred across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards.

5. Retention

We keep your account and log data for as long as your account is active. Retained meal photos are kept to train and improve our models until you delete your account or request deletion. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Access & export. You can export your data from within the app (Profile → Export data).
  • Deletion. You can delete your account and associated data from within the app (Profile → Delete account). See also https://calo.zonivan.com/delete-account.
  • Email. You can opt out of non-essential emails using the unsubscribe link.
  • HealthKit. You can revoke calo.'s Health permissions any time in iOS Settings → Health.
  • Depending on where you live (e.g., under Canada's PIPEDA or applicable provincial law), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your information. Contact kanishk@remembr.xyz.

7. Security

We protect information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), row-level access controls, and signed, expiring links for stored files. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we work to protect your information.

8. Children

calo. is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us.

9. Medical disclaimer

calo. provides estimates for general wellness and information only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Calorie and nutrient figures are estimates and may be inaccurate. Consult a qualified professional before making health decisions, and do not use calo. to manage a medical condition or eating disorder.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
